So I've been thinking, this year is the 30th anniversary for the RAH brand, and not many people are really getting into it. I want to go back and watch or read everything G.I. Joe, look at all the toys and games and really do a proper retrospective. I can do this by myself, but I thought it'd be more fun to do this as a community, and I can't think of a better community than cobra island. So if anyone is interested or has any ideas feel free to join in.

I think its a shame that Hasbro didn't do more with the 30th line. I understand that the movie line was in full swing, but it really does feel like a missed opportunity.

This idea sounds very cool, mizak, count me in!

OK I'll work on a time table for all of this. can we make Cobra Island the home of the retrospective? Offer something no other community is doing. I'm guess it will be everyone posting their thoughts on the various things, memories too. And yes we will be going into some dangerous (extreme) territory.

OK, I'm thinking we could make this a feature for the site, like 1 year per week for the last 30 weeks of the year. which would make the launch date Monday June 4. That gives us about 6 weeks to get started, unfortunately the first 6 years of the line were very prolific in comics, cartoons, and toys. I'm not really looking for anything specific for this, but here's an example, what I was planning to do by myself. This is about Clutch from 82.

"Clutch wasn't a strong character to me growing up, and like most of the first lineup, I only learned about them from the Impel card series, as I didn't buy many comics, and I don't think Clutch was in the cartoon as much. Still, I like the figure a lot, especially the cool vest he's got going on, he's probably one of my favorite figures from the first series. I really like his persona that Larry Hama crafted, and his appearances in the comic. My first Clutch was the Mega Marines version, and I liked him by then, because I knew the character a little better."

Again, not everyone has to do this, if someone wants to photograph their collection and talk about that, or write a short story, or anything really it's encouraged. I want to celebrate not only G.I. Joe, but the reasons we collect and love the line. I'm planing on going through the whole history of RAH from every figure and vehicle, to every issue and episode, and write about those, and I'm going to cover Hall of Fame, Sgt Savage, and Extreme because no one else will, and I have some of my history as a collector written up as well that I'd like to share. I also have all my figures and most of my vehicles photographed that I'd like to use.

I'm going to start reading the comics on Sunday and writing about each issue and I'll start on the cartoons soon as well. I guess what I need is someone to collaborate with in terms of helping to organize it all and help post it here. Also I might just have everyone email me what they want to submit, or we could just make a lot of posts, and get discussions going, I'm not really sure which way to take that. Anyways we got just over six weeks to get started on this, and I'd like to get as much done before hand as possible, because I know how this grand schemes can lose momentum.

I like the June 4/30 week idea Mizak :thumbsup

I am pondering an idea on how I can contribute, and wouldn't mind hearing some input. The idea, GI Joe-GENERATIONS (yeah I know ST rip off) but every week feature a GI Joe ARAH TV show or two that my son and I watch together, and get his point of view, and then my point of view. Along with this feature one of his favorite figures/vehicles along side with one of my favorite toys. I am not sure how well this will work sense he is six, but I am willing to give it a shot sense last week he was bugging me to get some of my joes out so we could play with them together, and this would be a perfect opportunity to do so :smoke.

Also, it has been a while sense I have visited the other boards, but last time, there really weren't much for generational posting. I have heard forever that the line is for collectors vs. Hasbro idea for kids. Well I think it is about time to insert a kids perspective about the GI Joe line. :xmascheers

Started to watch the old cartoon and read the old comic books, if anyone wants to get a dialog going let me know and we can plan when to discuss whatever it is.

If you want to talk Larry Hama comics I'm ALWAYS game! Name the issues you want to cover in each section, I'll reread them to refresh them in my mind, and we can shoot the breeze about the good and bad. Although with Larry, it's pretty much all good and no bad!
