That's who Lorenzo di Bonaventura wants!

c/o IESB.net...

He says they will start working on GI Joe immediately after they finish working on Transformers. Plus, guess who he has in mind to play Duke? None other than Shooter star, Mark Wahlberg.

The movie is said to be set before the rise of the COBRA organization, the film will show how the man the world will one day call Cobra Commander created his terrorist organization and honed it into a worldwide threat. Other COBRA characters, such as Destro and Stormshadow, are being planned to be included in the film. As for who is on the JOE team, look for appearances by the team's main players, such as Duke, Hawk and Snake Eyes.

Good call wyse, Well better Marky then Ashton Kootcher who has been able to stay coupled to mommy Demi Moore long enough not to bore the shit out of us with another awful movie. I guess thats why Dane Cook is getting work now.

Marky Mark isn't a BAD choice though I'd rather unkowns play big parts and have supporting characters played by big names.

eh .. personally i have long forgotten the funky bunch and I think he really is a good actor. I could see him possibly more as a Flint then a Duke perhaps.

I really however think the bigger news here is that there is plans for a Joe movie at all. Regardless of current casting thoughts.

I can see it now - "CC: the movie"
I like CC as everyone else but do we need a GI Joe movie that focus on him becoming CC?

I personally think if they are to start a franchise, they need to start by introducing the whole startup, since fans they hope to get wouldn't know that past like we do.

I don't think Mark Walhberg will be horrible, I mean, he wasn't that bad in Planet of the Apes...my opinion.

I agree with Megs, I think Mark Wahlberg is a good actor. I think he is a great choice. I'm glad they are going to go with actors that can act the part rather than someone that just looks like the part; choices like that could lead to a really good film, not just a Sci-Fi Original action movie...

Seriously, I think Gary Oldman should be forced at gunpoint to play Cobra Commander. :D

I don't know how he will be in it. Hopefully it is written right...and turns out good. I too, am happy to see a movie.

Guess he is the actor of the moment that is drawing the crowds... so that could be a good thing.

Sounds cool. I'll want to see it.

No Paul Anderson as director I hope he does almost every video game movie under the sun and they usually suck. Uwe Boll I hear is even worse.

I don't want to see any trendy names or flavor of the months, a good cast people who look the part and can play them too, Hawk should be included, maybe pass the torch to Duke at the end of the movie as they move onto what I can assue are "later issue stories" in sequels.

Oh and the more earliar Joes like Grandslam and Zap over newer more popular guys would be better. Maybe as cameos with speaking parts so that we know who they were.

That would be cool oh and no Ewoks.

I heard Samuel L. Jackson is gonna play Dr. Link Talbot in a future movie. :shifty

Well...if this is done right...it could be the shot of adrenaline needed to bring GI Joe name back into the spotlight.

That would mean more product.

So...heres to hoping.

I expect this movie to be as different as the transformers movie seems to be. Same concept just tweaks in the overall design of the film. It will get my money of course.:rock

If this movie and the TF movie are successful, maybe we'll see a Joe vs. TF movie cause versus movies are always good :shifty

I'm a little bit afraid Bonaventura can jump as much as he wants, but first he will have to convince hollywood to make such film.

Of course he would be happy if X played Duke and Y played Cobra Commander. But in reallity such cast is almost impossible to finance. And the bigger hollywood stars are mostly not interested in movies based on a toy.

I'm a big a-team fan, and I've heard the same stories about an a-team movie for more than 20 years.

I remember that "scrpit" the was leaked like two years ago, if thats the kind of movie they make I really couldn't support it, G.I. Joe needs Cobra imo. Marky Mark was good in the departed.

Yeah, I remember that script as well. The lame thing was that the bad guy was NAMED Cobra...ugh. I'm a bit more hopeful after seeing the interview with the producer, as he mentioned Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow and Destro...as I've said before, don't make it unless you do it right!

You can't forget the Baroness either, she is a vital part to Cobra as well.

If the movie starts off with the original 13, segways into Cobra with the beginnings and just the top group of Cobra I think it would be a good platform to launch into sequels down the road.

A few things to keep in mind:
It took damn near 4 years to get Transformers done, and while I don't see Joe taking anywhere near as long, we're still looking at a good 2 years AT LEAST before the film is completed, depending on how fast it takes them to get writer(s) and a director.
Again, Transformers didn't start actual production until early 2006 and is still finishing its effects work, but at one point, hasbro has promo material for a Christmas 2006 release date.

While Wallberg is this producer's first choice, it is NOT a lock! All said and done, there will be a LOT of changes, and it is completely possible that, depending on how long preproduction takes, Wahlberg might sign to another film which wouldn't allow him to take part.
To cite Transformers again, Micheal Bay wanted Micheal Clarke Duncan to play a supporting part in the film, but was unable to due to scheduling conflicts.

So I say, let's all cool our jets and wait and see.

Until then, I'm going to dust off my Transformers riot gear and get ready...

Hasbro dumped the script, they didn't like it.

Thank god. I understand some tweaks need to be made but not that many.
