View Full Version : Star Wars faction debate

There are tons of factions in Star Wars. Each era having its own two, sometimes three warring factions. My question is: which is your favorite? Not 'who would win in a fight?' 'who's right?' Just simply, which faction are you most interested in and enjoy reading/seeing/hearing about?
EDIT: This was originally going to be a Poll, but I had to feed one of my kids and take the other one to the bathroom, so my option to add the poll passed. So some ideas on faction then: Old Republic, Sith Order, Mandalorians, Rebellion, Galactic Empire, CIS, Jedi Order, Black Sun/Nebula, Yuuzhan Vong, Galactic Alliance, Sith Empire, Imperial Remanant, etc...

Hard to say personally the Rebellion Period is just a classic.
I'm not to fond of the Old Republic stuff, I've read all the books and honestly the ones that have held my interest the most are the Darth Bane books.
I did not and do not like Mandalorian books reading these Republic Commando books is like reading an all Spanish book and not knowing any Spanish.
I LOVED the Thrawn books!
The Vong were and interesting idea, but the damn story dragged on FOREVER, and was way too oddly numbered which made picking up the books casually hard to do. I'd see a book grab it and realize damn there's like 5 books from three differant series and 2 enovels I haven't read...well better put this aside until I find those.
But I'm thinking After the original Trilogy and after most of the Imperial Remenant books (Loved Daala) I'd go with the Legacy books. All well written easily recognizable, a decent and paced out story that made a lot of good action and sense. Beyond the I like the Young Jedi Knights books.

Republic Forces, the idea of Jedi leading armies of badass clones is too much win for any human to comprehend.

The non-apocryphal ones.

All of them have got their own signifigant tastes and strengths. I'd have to think about it.
For me, it's the Empire. I just find the whole thing fascinating. I love the books that deal with the Empire. "Star Wars: Allegiance" by Tim Zahn is fantastic. Quite a large chunk of the book is all about the Stormtroopers and the 501st.

No surprise, I'm with JD on this one. The Empire. General Veers is one of my favorite EU characters(#1 is ironically Admiral Ackbar) Its the strong militaristic nature of a Galactic Empire that just hits home as awesome. Sometimes i wish a legion of white-armor clad soldiers would straighten up this world...

Galactic Empire is a very close second for me. it was my favorite as a kid but the more I see of the clone armies and their interaction w/ the jedi the more I like

When AotC came out, and everything up to and including Revenge and the Clone Wars series, I was big on the millions of same-faced soldiers marching into battle alongside legions of some of the coolest characters ever created. But in the long run, the military force that acts like a real-world military force is the one that gets my vote. Clones were nearly flawless in their military actions, where as the Empire made mistakes, fought each other for control, and were comprised of recruits who barely graduated high school and couldn't shoot their way out of a paper bag. Much more realistic, and in my opinion, more interesting.

see here's my thing, the moves executed by the empire were not realistic to me. when I watch AOTC, ROTS, and Clone Wars I can actually see techniques used today by US forces. I never got that feeling watching stormtroopers and thats why clones get my vote.

I still find it odd that Clones could shoot Jedi. Either Clones really are awesome or Jedi really are overrated and not as strong as we thought they were.

well thats kind of the point in the Rule of Two for the Sith. The Force is like a dozen doughnuts; If two people are sharing them, everyone is well fed, but if thousands share them, well, you get the picture.

SO...is that your telling me is that in Star Wars theres only so much Force to go around?!
:weird If that is what you are implying. I never heard that before, it had to have come from a comic or a book.

destro is right regarding the sith point of view. read the stuff regarding Darth Bane and it's explained. his sentiment was that too many sith watered down the darkside and thus created the rule of 2.....realisticly it was a weak plot device to explain the inconsistancy between tales of the old republic and ep1.
as for the jedi being pawned so easily by the Clones, it all goes back to the conversation Mace and Yoda has about the jedi becoming weak, prideful, arrogant, and overall sloppy. the jedi became to large and started to believe their own hype. the Clones brought them back to reality....plus the clones were breed for war, not just some occupying military force recruited throughout the galaxy like stormtroopers....

Okay, it makes some sense now.

I would have to go with Rouge Squadron. Wedge Antilles is one heck of a pilot, I would say better than Luke Skywalker, and he is the only pilot to have the privileged of saying that he survived attacking 2 Death Stars. :hellfire:chewie
I tried to convince my wife to name one of our children Wedge, but for some reason she did not go for it. :wha

I would like the idea of being a Privateer so the Rebellion kicks there but the Empire has cool battleships and strenth in numbers.
The Sith order would be cool too. I wouldn't want to be some deformed ugly creature, more like a Darth Tyranus or Sidious. Mystery man Sidious.

Wedge is the only non-main character to appear in, and survive all three movies.
Also, both of my daughters = named for Star Wars characters. my :wife = Win.
I remember Mara...what's the other girl's name again?
